Default Wanted: Opinions and Handicapping

I'm asking my friends here at WGW to interact on a particular card. I'm entering a National Handicapping Championship qualifier at Louisiana Downs this Saturday, July 5th. Any opinions would be appreciated.

There's always another angle or opinion. This will show me something that perhaps I didn't notice or think of. So, I'll be handicapping the LA Downs card. Any input would be great and perhaps change my mind. I'm going to jot down my top 3 in case of scratches.

It may rain and if it does, I won't go if the track is sloppy. I don't bother handicapping slop. I wanted to get this out before the long holiday weekend.

Thanks,

Rich

Default Good Luck Rich

Plan on going, I predict the rain will be of the Floriday tropical nature and only rain breifly in the afternoon if at all.....

I will take a look tomorrow at LAD and post a few with this caveat..I stink at LAD, but it will give you a fe to scratch off...right!!!

Just bet the 2 or 1 in every race and you'll b somewhere in the money! j

Hey Rich,

I'm happy to say that LaD is one of my best tracks. I follow the Louisiana circuit very closely and do some of my best work at the Bossier City track. I will post my July 5th opinions for you. And don't let the possibility of an off track deter you...knowledge of pedigree comes in real handy in the slop, so again I am all over that should it occur.

Let me not sound like an egomaniac...I am Ray Charles at tracks like Hollywood and Arlington! Louisiana Downs just happens to be right up my alley.

I had already left before you posted your picks, I drive 2 hours each way to get there and play. You looked like you had a pretty good card Oscar.

Default Sorry Rich...

Rich...I regret that I was unable to post LaD opinions as originally planned. Had some friends come in for the 4th and ended up not being able to focus on racing, as I had intended.

So how did you do?

Not good enough! I finished 9th with the top 5 advancing. I have RARELY played that track, so 9th is not too bad (just as good as last). Inside speed is important when playing cheap horses. The chalk was prevalent.

No need to apologize Berns, I totally understand.

I finished with $64.60 for a profit of $20.60. The format is to make $2 win and place plays on one horse in each race.

Default Aqueduct --Seth Benzel

Does anyone know anything about Seth Benzel. I do simple stats on trainers and I noticed the other day that Seth Benzel has hit 1 or 2nd in his 4 starts at the current meet. I made a nice peice of change today again on him in race 7. Does anyone have any background on him?

Default Brights

I have seen his name, just wonder if he was an assistant for someone, maybe Pletcher or Mott? I'll do a little research and let you know...j

Default Well, I was right

Seth was an assistant to Todd P and he is quite a guy. His father is an architect and Seth is a painter (as in artist). He bought an old house in Saratoga Springs and his father remodeled it for him. He even has some of his own paintings hanging in vaious parts of the house.

We better keep an eye on this guy......

my friend. I forgot to mention the guy is also a living doll, but probably no one but you and I would care about that.

Default Seth Benzel

He worked for Pletcher a while--I think he took out his own license right before Saratoga this summer--and while he didn't win until right at closing weekend I think everything he sent out was quite live. I think he just missed a couple of photos as well. Seemed to be well respected by all folks working the backside from what I heard from my Lake Saratoga pals.

Hey gang, do any of the WGW members have any handicapping angles that they wouldn't mind sharing for the up coming meet. How does speed hold up on the turf and main tracks etc.?

I think the dirt track and the turf track play very even for all style of horses. I'll tell you what though, the Derby favors middle of the pack horses. 73% win the Derby.
